  • Rubber Track
Cut and Crack in Rubber Track Edge

If the rubber track edges are cut or cracked, it can be used until its steel cords or metal cores are exposed.

    ¢º
Cause 1. Foreign Material or Uneven Land Surface

    ¢º
Cause 1. Foreign Material or Uneven Land Surface

When the rubber track runs on an uneven road or land with sharp stones or gravels, its edges can be deformed, cracked, or cut under highly loaded on a certain part.

    It occurs partially in general.

¢º Cause 2. Damage by Interferences Equipments Frame, Parts, etc,.
It occurs that the rubber track interferes with sprockets, rollers, idlers or frame when the rubber track runs with lower tension than standard by OEMs recommendation, or comes off sprockets, or turns when the gap between the frame and the rubber track gets narrow by mud, straws and/or other foreign materials.
It often occurs to be cut or cracked continuously and regularly in general.

    ¢º Counterplan 1

    A. Avoid driving on uneven road and sharp obstacles on the road.

    B. Avoid long distance driving and pavement with high friction coefficient. In these cases, it is desirable to use transport like tractor.

    ¢º Counterplan 2

    A. In case of new rubber tracks, it is desirable to check tension just after running around 50 hours, and then correct tension as recommended by OEM.

    B. Whenever the rubber tracks are finished using, remove mud or other foreign material in the frame, parts and rubber tracks.

    Breakage of Steel Cords

The rubber track can not be used when the steel cords or polyester cords of the rubber track are broken.

    ¢º Cause

    1) Damage by Excessive External Tension

It occurs when the rubber track runs with lower than standard, it comes off and is to be loaded excessively to the metal core in the rubber track.

It occurs when stones, gravels or other foreign materials put into among metal core, idler, roller and sprocket.

    2) Damage by fatigue

It occurs when fatigue is accumulated by fast driving or turning.

    3) Damage by Steel Cord Corrosion and Breakage by Gouging

Lug is gouged by foreign materials such as sharp stones, and then steel cord is corroded and broken by moisture permeation.

    ¢º Counterplan

    A. Check rubber track tension regularly and maintain correct tension.

    B. Avoid road condition which has sharp stones, pebbles or other foreign materials, and minimize external shock to drive slowly on the above road conditions.

    C. Avoid fast turns and ensure slow and wide turns.

    Separation of Metal Core

In case excessive external force is given to metal core of the rubber track or corroded by environmental condition, it is broken away and then the rubber track can not be used anymore.

    ¢º Cause

    1) It occurs with excessive load when rubber track runs with less than standard tension or when it comes off from sprockets, idlers or rollers, or sprocket is worn abnormally as shown in the side of picture.

    2) The steel cord is adhered to the rubber with adhesives, but the adhesion tends to be reduced by chemicals or salt when it is used for a long time.

    A. Check rubber track tension regularly and maintain correct tension

    B. Ensure slow and wide turns

    C. Minimize the shock on the rubber track by driving slowly on an uneven road or on the load with sharp stones or pebbles.

    D. Thoroughly wash and keep dry just after using in undesirable road conditions.

    Damage to Lugs

In case the rubber track lugs become damaged, it can be used until the steel cords are exposed.

    ¢º Cause

    1) The lug is damaged by sharp stones, pebble or other obstacles on the road during operation and driving.

    2) Fast turns on the road surface with sharp stones or other obstacles cause severe damage to the lugs.

    3) When the damage extends to the steel cords, corrosion occurs which cause the steel cords breakage.

    ¢º

Driving and operation under undesirable road condition which has forest, construction site, unpavement or many sharp obstacles.

    A. Drive slowly.

    B. Ensure slow and wide turns.

    C. Use transport such as tractor when it is moved to a long distance.

    Wear on Base Rubber

Base rubber parts wear excessively due to its concentrated contact with the track rollers, and then the metal core can be separated.

    ¢º
    Cause

Base rubber has less cushion near the metal core where contact with the track rollers tends to be worn by sand, small pebbles or other foreign materials on a certain parts. Especially this happens in combines and transportation vehicles many times.

This depends on the soil condition, occurs more severely under condition with high sand contents. Pay attention to the steel cord breakage from corrosion by moisture permeation when the wear grows.

    ¢º
    Counterplan

    A. Remove mud on the rubber tracks and track rollers just after operation and driving under muddy or wet land.

    B. Make slow and wide turns in the construction sites or mountainous areas with lots of stones, pebbles or rocks.

Cracks or Cuts around End Parts of Metal Core

Cracks or cuts occur around end parts of metal core at the side parts of the rubber track due to external shock or bending, the damage should be checked to decide to use or not.

    ¢º Cause

When the rubber track is used or a narrow or rough roads, the side parts of the rubber track may be deformed, bent or broken so that the cracks or cuts occur if the load is concentrated on the parts.

    ¢º Counterplan

Be careful to use rubber tracks on the following road conditions.

    A. Narrow roads

    B. Mountainous area after cutting down forest

    C. Rough lands

    D. Construction sites which have broken concrete pieces or sharp stones

    Wear of Lugs

It is normal the lugs are worn in proportion to the operation time.

    ¢º
    Cause

    1) Early wear conditions

    - Turning on concrete or asphalt pavement with high friction coefficients.

    - Driving or operating on the roads with sharp or projecting obstacles.

    2) When lug height is reduced by severe wear, the traction force is decreased and easily damaged by external foreign materials.

    ¢º
    Counterplan

    A. Avoid long distance driving.

    B. Avoid driving on concrete or asphalt  pavement with high friction coefficients.

    C. Use transport such as tractor to prevent wear problem.

    D. Avoid fast or sharp turns.

    Lug Cracks

During driving and operating , cracks occur on the lugs of the rubber track, but it can be used until the steel cord is exposed.

    ¢º Cause

    1) Ozone cracks

The rubber parts near sprocket, idler extend and cause ozone cracks when the equipment is stopped or stored for a long time.

    2) Cracks by flex fatigue

The cracks grow caused by flex fatigue from repeated stretching and shrinking when the rubber track is driving and operating for a long time.

    ¢º
    Counterplan

    1) Ozone cracks

    A. Drive rubber track at least once a month to prevent fatigue on a certain parts during

    parking or storing.

    B. Prevent sunshine and keep dry with covers during parking or storing.

    ¢º Counterplan 1

    A. Avoid driving on uneven road and sharp obstacles on the road.

    B. Avoid long distance driving and pavement with high friction coefficient. In these cases, it is desirable to use transport like tractor.
